SHELBY- It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved Beckett Austin Burton. Born on December 20, 2025, in Gastonia, Beckett graced this world for a brief but impactful 15 days before leaving us on January 4, 2026, in Charlotte.
Though his time with us was short, Beckett touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of meeting him. From the moment he entered the world, he was a fighter, displaying a strength beyond his years. His beautiful head of curly hair and his cute button nose were just a few of the features that endeared him to all who met him. Beckett had big feet and hands, perhaps hinting at the large strides he would have taken in life.
When his mama spoke to him, Beckett's eyes would open wide with wonder and love, a testament to the deep bond they shared. He loved his mama and daddy immensely, finding solace and joy in their voices and presence.
In his short stay with us, Beckett became quite the ladies' man. The nurses and doctors adored him so much that they would pick up extra shifts and come in on their days off just to spend time with him. His presence brought light to the hospital, and his joyful spirit was a source of inspiration to all.
Beckett was baptized by his great-grandfather, Larry King, marking a special and sacred moment in his too-brief journey. He loved to be sung to, finding comfort in melodies and the gentle voices of those around him.
Beckett leaves behind his loving parents, Mackenzie and Nick Burton; his devoted grandparents, Laura and Chris Hayes, April and Rodney Callahan, and Billy Burton; his adoring aunts and uncles, Makayla Callahan, Breanna and Sean Matheson, Ethan Hayes, and Michael Callahan; his cousin Declan; as well as his cherished great-grandparents. Each of them holds dear the precious memories he gifted them during his short stay.
A memorial service to honor Beckett's life will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 6:30 PM at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to visit and share their condolences from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM prior to the service.
Though Beckett's time with us was fleeting, his spirit and the joy he brought into our lives will remain with us forever. In our hearts, he will always be remembered as a beacon of love and hope.
