Wilmington - Estelle Chamberlain McClurg, born on November 21, 1937, in Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 88.
Estelle's journey through life was marked by her dedication to her work and her passions. She pursued higher education in Los Angeles, where she laid the foundation for a successful career as a paralegal. Her meticulous attention to detail and commitment to justice were evident throughout her many years in the field.
Her life took a vibrant turn when she moved to Hawaii, a place she cherished deeply. It was there that she met her beloved second husband, Michael B. McClurg, a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer. Together, they embraced the island life, creating lasting memories until their move to Wilmington, North Carolina, in the early 2000s.
Estelle was a woman of many interests. She found immense joy in reading and solving crossword puzzles, often losing herself in the pages of a good book or the challenge of a complex puzzle. Her love for cats was well-known, and her feline companion, Tizzy, was a constant source of comfort and companionship.
An avid quilter and crafter, Estelle's hands were rarely still. She poured her heart into creating beautiful works of art, each piece a testament to her creativity and skill. Her quilts and crafts were treasured by all who received them, embodying the warmth and love with which they were made.
Estelle was preceded in death by her loving husband, Michael B. McClurg. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her children, Mark Hill, Dorian Hill, Amanda Hill Sucich, and Patti Aaron; her grandchildren, Amber Sucich, Emily Sucich, Haley France, and Jackson France; her sister, Delia Kersey; and her beloved cat, Tizzy.
Services to honor and celebrate Estelle's life will be scheduled at a later date. Her family and friends will gather to remember a remarkable woman whose life was filled with love, laughter, and the beauty of her creations. Estelle will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
