Floyd Eugene “Gene” Austin

September 19, 1957 – October 14, 2025

Floyd Eugene “Gene” Austin, age 68, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, with his son Jason and sister Teresa at his bedside. He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love, quiet strength, and selfless devotion to his family.

Born on September 19, 1957, Gene faced life with resilience and humility. After surviving a stroke at the age of 34, which left him legally blind, he never once complained. Despite his challenges, Gene remained fiercely dedicated to providing for his children, Jason and Hollie, riding his bicycle 15 miles each way to work every day to support them. His life was defined not by what he lost, but by what he gave.

One of Gene’s favorite things to do was ride motorcycles with his son Jason, sharing a bond and memories that brought him great joy. He was also known for always wearing boots—he never went anywhere without them.

Gene’s world revolved around his children, and later, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his son Jason Austin and his wife April Austin, and his daughter Hollie Austin and her partner Matt Craig.

He is also survived by his grandchildren:

• Ashlynn, Brooklynn, Autumn, Annika, and Madilin – children of Jason and April Austin

• Taylor, Madison, and Owen – children of Hollie Austin

And by his great-grandchildren:

• Stella, Easton, and Landon – children of Taylor

• Braxton and Keagan – children of Ashlynn

• He was also joyfully anticipating the arrival of another great-grandchild, Summer, daughter of Autumn.

He also had a great-grandson, Abel, also Ashlynn’s son, who preceded him in death.

In addition to his children and grandchildren, Gene is survived by his sister Teresa Hewett and her children, Darlene Austin and her children, the children of his late sister Romona Baker, and his lifelong best friend Willie Aldridge, who was like a brother to him.

He was also preceded in death by his mother Nancy Austin, his grandmother Mary Burden, his sister Romona Baker, his brother-in-law Dave Hewett, and his godparents Bill and Joyce Aldridge.

Gene lived a simple, honest life rooted in love and responsibility. He was a steady, dependable presence who always put his family first and gave his best without asking for anything in return. His dedication, humility, and quiet perseverance will never be forgotten. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

Cremation by Tranquility Aquamation 2209 Delaney Ave. Wilmington NC 28403
