Jerry Lee West, born on April 16, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut, passed away on August 6, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 79.
Jerry was a dedicated educator who devoted nearly two decades of his life to the Rochester School District in Vermont. During his tenure, he served as an educator, advisor, coach, and principal, touching the lives of countless students and colleagues with his passion for learning and commitment to excellence. A true sports enthusiast, Jerry was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics, the New England Patriots, and the Carolina Tar Heels. His love for these teams was only rivaled by the enthusiasm he shared for them with friends and family. Since 1994, Jerry was also a proud member of the Elks Lodge, where he formed many treasured friendships and contributed to the community.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Gertrude West; his brothers, Ronald and James West; his sister, Victoria West; and his loving partner of 18 years, Linda S. Karanovich. He is survived by Linda’s son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Crystal Karanovich of Raleigh, NC, along with countless close friends and loved ones who will miss his warmth and camaraderie.
Per his wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held in the near future, allowing those who knew and loved him to gather in remembrance and honor of a life well-lived. Jerry's legacy of kindness, dedication, and friendship will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
