Trenton Paul Patterson, a beloved son, father, and friend, passed away on September 16, 2025, at his home in Wilmington, NC. Born on April 3, 1998, in Winston Salem, NC, Trenton spent his formative years in Yadkin County before making Wilmington his home in 2018.
“T” was a sweet soul with big emotions. When he loved, he loved hard. He had an ability to easily connect with animals, children, and the elderly, feeling very protective of those he considered innocent or voiceless. With a love of laughter and being quite the jokester, he never let his own battles in life stop him from seeking happiness. Listening to music of all genres was his thing, and often the way he connected to life or worked through his feelings.
Family was very important to Trent. He appreciated having roots and enjoyed connecting with extended family and hearing family history. He also made friends easily and cherished those friendships. Likewise, he meant a lot to his family and friends, and to say he will be missed is an understatement. His family and friends have many great memories to hold dear, including good times fishing, competitive game nights, hiking trips, and adventures at the beach and Cherokee.
Trenton leaves behind his daughter, Sadie Mae Patterson, who was the light of his life; his mother, Amy Hicks, with whom he shared an unbreakable connection; his loving "Nana," Ann Hicks, and her fiancée, Wayne McBryde; his treasured "Grammy," Ida Mae Martin, with whom he shared a special bond and who he adored beyond measure; his nurturing Aunt and Uncle, Ashley and Mark Donaldson; his sweet cousins Sydney and Taylor; and his special sisters, Kate and Rhi, who brought a later-in-life connection that he valued immensely and who held a dear place in his heart. He will also be missed by numerous extended family and friends, and his “dog brother” Pancho.
Trenton’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and giving yourself permission to feel whatever you may be feeling. That’s the gift Trenton leaves us—a reminder to love fiercely, laugh often, and when all else fails… put on some good music and allow yourself to feel the feels.
There will be a Celebration of life held in Trenton’s honor at 2:00 on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025 at The Fort Fisher Recreation Area in Kure Beach NC. There will be indoor and outdoor space so rain or shine. Please come as you are, Trenton was not big on formality. For any of Trenton’s friends or family that cannot make the trip, please know that his family understands and feels your love. Trenton would understand as well and would want you to honor him in your own way, on your own time, with love and laughter in your heart.
Please leave memories and condolences for Trenton's family in the Guestbook below.
